On 11/21/11, Graduate Students United (GSU) at the University of Chicago launched a national campaign calling on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to rule immediately on a case brought by NYU Graduate Student Organizing Committee that would determine the employment status of graduate student teachers and research assistants at private universities. This ruling must come before the end of 2011, when the NLRB will lose the quorum necessary to vote until after the election year. The collective bargaining rights of UChicago graduate student employees are on the line.
As the first step of a long-term campaign, GSU has issued a petition addressed to the NLRB, calling for a ruling for graduate students and research assistants at private universities, as well as offering a general call to the NLRB to continue doing its job and protecting American workers. No affiliation with any university is necessary to sign.
